FREE social media resources for small business | Save big bucks and precious time

Want your Facebook and social media brand presence to be super slick and professional, but your designer, copywriter and strategist all happen to be you?

The reality of the solopreneur and online start-up is that you wear every hat in the closet – some of those hats you can rock like a super star (they accentuate your cheekbones, give you Beyonce-level swag) and some… well, they kinda make your head look like a pumpkin.

I’ve read so many articles and interviews with entrepreneurs and business people who say ‘the secret to success is hiring your weaknesses’.

Now, that’s awesome advice, and I totally agree with it in principle – BUT, when you’re just starting out, a lot of the time that’s just not a feasible option, especially when it comes to marketing your business.

When you don’t have the budget to outsource the things you’re not good at, you have to roll your sleeves up and muck in.

It can be fun, exciting and really challenging having to DIY for things that aren’t your specialty, so I’m super stoked to be able to share some awesome FREE resources with you that will help you take your social media marcomms to pro level.

Beautiful Pics

Finding beautiful, relevant images and photos to use in your social media content can be tricky – Google image search turns up plenty of results, but the vast majority aren’t licenced for reuse and you risk getting in trouble (copyright infringement- eek!) if you do pinch them.

That’s where free stock image databases are awesome! There are quite a few out there, but I particularly like Pixabay and StockUp – these two are searchable and you don’t have to attribute the images you use.

Fancy Fonts

If you’re not a designer, or you’re more a written creative than a visual one, you may not think too much about your choice of font, but it’s actually really important!

Ready to ditch the Arial or Calibri for something a bit more unique? Still using CURLZ MT?

Time to ditch the bland or out dated typeface and get yourself something shiny, new and fitting for your beautiful brand!

Font squirrel is a great resource for free, funky fonts that can help you snazz up your content, collateral and even your website. All the fonts are available for commercial use, and there’s a heap to choose from.

Icons are a really handy way to make your longer form content more visually enticing, to add to your digital ads and use on your site.

Rather than shelling out for bespoke icons check out Endless Icons it’s an online icon library with hundreds of super cute and useful icons – from chef’s hats through to social buttons.

Nail your layout

Once you’ve found a beautiful pic, your fabulous font and maybe an icon or two to add a bit of pizazz the next step is making sure that you can put them together into a professional piece of content.

… but you’re not a designer, you don’t have Photoshop or Illustrator – so, what…PowerPoint?? Paint? Nope, Canva.

Canva is an easy to use design tool that gives you templates you can customise, backgrounds, text, layouts – all sorts of cool stuff! It’s drag and drop and really simple.

You can ditch the dodgy editing and create beautifully tailored content AND all the templates are correctly sized, so your Facebook cover image doesn’t have to be pixelated and warped out of shape anymore!

Now, just so you know, I’m not affiliated with any of these sites – they’re simply resources that I use in my business and have found really useful! I hope you find them as awesome as I do :) If you did, don’t forget to like and share it with your friends.
